Grizzlies vs. Warriors NBA Playoffs Series Betting

Memphis Grizzlies (4-1) vs. Golden State Warriors (4-0) – NBA Western Conference semifinals

Series Starts: Sunday, May 3rd 2015 at 3:30pm ET
Game 1 Venue: Oracle Arena in Oakland, California
TV: ABC

GOLDEN State swept the Pelicans and haven’t played since April 25th 2015, but this will be a true test for the Warriors. How will the Warriors #1 ranked offense look against the Grizzlies #2 ranked defense? This series is a battle of contrasting styles.

Memphis made quick work of Portland – only losing one game (4). Golden State won the H2H series 2-1 – Memphis won the first game (105-98) in December — while the Warriors won the last two games (107-84 in March and 111-107 in April).

The Grizzlies should have one goal all series – hold the Warriors to under 100 points in every game.

If Memphis can hold Golden State to under 100.0 PPG, we may have a competitive series on our hands.

Warriors vs. Grizzlies: Odds to win the NBA playoff series

At these odds, I’m almost tempted by the Grizzlies, but that’d be silly. Golden State have the formula for beating Memphis. What I’m waiting for are the prices on the exact series prop market, as I’m interested in betting the Warriors to win the series 4-1.

Here’s the complete schedule for the Grizzlies vs. Warriors playoff series:

Game 2: Thursday, May 5th 2015 at 10:30pm ET on TNT (Oracle Arena)
Game 3: Saturday, May 9th 2015 at 8:00pm ET on ABC (FedEx Forum)
Game 4: Monday, May 11th 2015 at 9:30pm ET on TNT (FedEx Forum)
Game 5: Wednesday, May 13th 2015 at TBD on TNT (Oracle Arena) *
Game 6: Friday, May 15th 2015 at TBD on ESPN (FedEx Forum) *
Game 7: Sunday, May 17th 2015 at TBD (Oracle Arena) *

Memphis vs. Golden State series prediction

As I mentioned earlier – I’m waiting on the odds for this market still, but Bovada will release odds soon.

Golden State is having an incredible season. The Warriors ended the regular season ranked 2nd in offensive efficiency (109.7) and 1st in defensive efficiency (98.2). The GSW scored 110.0 PPG (1st) and allowed 99.9 PPG (15th), while ranking 1st in pace (100.7).

The Splash Brothers, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, completely took over the Warriors opening round series. The duo combined for 54.04% of the Warriors scoring against Portland (58.8 PPG of 108.8 PPG) and were deadly from beyond the arc.

Mike Conley is expected to play in the series, but any time the Grizzlies PG misses will be detrimental to his team’s chances of winning. Nick Calathes and Beno Udrih stand zero chance at containing Curry.

Memphis are an efficient team – ranking 13th in offensive efficiency (103.1) and 4th in defensive efficiency (99.9). The Grizzlies scored 98.3 PPG (20th) and allowed 95.1 PPG (2nd) during the season, but both numbers improved in the first round of the playoffs.

Where would the Grizzlies be without Marc Gasol? Out of the playoffs. Gasol led the Grizzlies against Portland in points (20.4 PPG), rebounds (9.2 RPG), assists (5.0 APG) and blocks (2.4 BPG). Expect those numbers to drop with Andrew Bogut covering him.

Game 1: Grizzlies at Warriors betting lines and picks

Conley has missed two games in a row and won’t be ready to play in game 1 this weekend. However, -10 points is a huge spread to cover for any team against the Grizzlies. Not only are Memphis strong defensively, but they also rank 26th in pace (94.2).

Draymond Green had a great first round series – he averaged 15.8 PPG, 12.8 RPG, 6.3 APG, 2.5 SPG and 1.25 BPG. Those numbers are insane, but with Zach Randolph covering him now, look Green’s production to take a major hit.

The Warriors are going to have to rely on Curry and Klay Thompson – both of whom should be unstoppable. Thompson averaged 25.0 PPG, while shooting 48.6% from the field against Portland. Courtney Lee will stand no chance against Klay.

However, the Grizzlies would be smart to have Jeff Green shadow Thompson in order to limit his shooting. Memphis ranked 18th at defending the 3-pointer (35.1%) this season, but they’ll need to play better perimeter defense to beat the GSW.

This is a huge game, as both teams will be looking to establish the tempo they want. Golden State wants to get out early and run the court, plus throw up a lot of shots from all over the court. Memphis want to slow everything down and play at a snails pace.

Both teams are efficient and I expect the Grizzlies to fight valiantly in game 1. Golden State will hang on to win the opener, but the Grizzlies aren’t going to get blown out by double-digits.
