Philadelphia Eagles vs. Green Bay Packers Week #10 Preview

Kick-Off Time: Sunday, November 10th 2013 at 1:00pm ET
Stadium: Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin
Network: Watch Live on FOX

The Green Bay Packers (5-3) not only lost to the Bears last week, but Aaron Rodgers was injured in the game and he’ll be forced to miss at least a few weeks. With Rodgers out, the Philadelphia Eagles (4-5) will like their chances of winning this game at Lambeau.

PHI vs. GB Week 10 ML Odds

Some of the European bookmakers opened this game up at –7 in favor of the Packers and were slow to move the line. US bookies opened up from –1 to –2.5 points for the Packers, but now the game is at a PK almost everywhere you look right now.

Will the Packers Fall Apart Without Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers leads this team offensively and it’ll be a huge change of pace with Wallace under center. Rodgers has a 108 QBR this season and he has put up some of the best QB numbers in the league, which has helped the Packers have one of the best offenses.

Green Bay ranks 3rd in points scored (29 PPG), 6th in passing yards (274.4 PYPG) and 2nd in rushing yards (148.6 RYPG). With Rodgers out those numbers are going to drop, but the question is by how much? Last week Wallace went 11/19 for 114 yards and 1 INT.

Philadelphia has the worst secondary in the NFL (307.6 PYPG Allowed), but I expect the Packers to run a lot. Wallace has the ability to run the option and Eddie Lacy can wear down the Eagles front seven. The Eagles have given up 111.8 RYPG (18th) on defense.

It’s hard to go into Lambeau Field and win, so don’t count the Packers out just because of the Rodgers injury. If Green Bay is able to control the line of scrimmage and time of possession they should be able to win a low scoring game at home this weekend.

Can Foles Lead the Eagles to Another Win

Nick Foles was an absolute monster last week on the road against the Raiders. Foles completed 22/28 pass attempts for 406 yards and 7 TD passes. He most likely will never put up numbers like that again in his career, but he should do well against the Packers.

Green Bay has struggled against the pass all season (250.5 PYPG –20th), but their run-stopping unit (94.5 RYPG – 5th) is solid. If Philly is able to pass the football for 300+ passing yards and Foles doesn’t turn it over then they could win their 2nd road game in a row.

The Eagles also have the 3rd most rushing yards (147.9 RYPG), but without Vick that average has been dropping. McCoy hasn’t had over 100+ rushing yards since week six and that is unlikely to change because the Packers are going to zone in on him.

Philadelphia needs DeSean Jackson and Riley Cooper to have another big game. Last week the two receivers combined for a total of 10 catches for 289 receiving yards and 4 TD’s. McCoy will be held in check, but these two need to have 100+ yards each again.

Eagles vs. Packers Picks

Wallace had a tough go of it last week in nearly a full game of action, but that was against a tough Bears defense. Philly has allowed 25.7 PPG (22nd), but they’ve been improving as the season progresses. They haven’t allowed over 21 points in their last four games.

This won’t be a blow out, but I’d much rather have the better passing team in this battle of the back-up QB’s. Wallace isn’t going to hit the important passes to continue drives and the Eagles will be able to stack the box, which will limit Lacy’s power run game.

Both teams need a win badly this week, but I feel that the Eagles are moving in a better direction due to Rodgers now being hurt for at least a few weeks for GB. The Packers might not even make the playoffs if Rodgers misses more than a few weeks.

Green Bay is 5-3 in the AFC North along with the Lions and Bears, so they have no room for an extended losing the streak. The Eagles are still trying to keep pace with the 5-4 Cowboys in the NFC East and they have to try and get to .500 (5-5) this Sunday.
