Eagles vs. Cowboys Week 13 Betting Preview

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day Preview

Start Time: Thursday, November 27th 2014 at 4:30pm ET
Location: AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas
Station: FOX

The Dallas Cowboys 8-3 (6-5 ATS) hosts the Philadelphia Eagles 8-3 (7-4 ATS) in an important NFC East match-up. Whoever wins this game will take the lead in the division. I expect this game to be the best on the Thanksgiving Day schedule this Thursday.

This line will move based strictly on the action that the bookies receive leading up to the game. Dallas is at –3 because they’re home and it wouldn’t surprise me if the point spread stayed the same. The total is high, but this match-up is expected to be a shootout.

PHI @ DAL Stats at a Glance

These two teams are fairly similar although the Cowboys definitely have a defensive edge. The Eagles offensive is slightly better on paper, but with Mark Sanchez in at QB for the injured Nick Foles I give the edge on offense to the Cowboys in this match-up.

Why the Cowboys Will Cover ATS

Dallas got the win last week against the Giants (31-28), but it wasn’t pretty. The Cowboys will cover the point spread as long as they play effectively on offense. It all starts with DeMarco Murray and the Cowboys rushing attack (150.1 RYPG – 2nd).

Tony Romo and the offense averages just 237.2 PYPG (17th), but that’s because of the run game being so effective this season. In this game I expect them to open it up a bit more because the Eagles secondary hasn’t been able to stop anyone (266.3 PYPG – 30th).

Philly allows 109.0 RYPG (16th), but the Cowboys will definitely have more success by opening up the field through the air. Murray is going to get his touches in this match-up, but look for Dez Bryant to have another big game, as he has been only getting better.

Why the Eagles Will Cover ATS

LeSean McCoy has finally started running the football effectively the last few weeks. The Eagles average 118.7 RYPG (12th), but that number should continue improving. The Cowboys give up 107.2 RYPG (13th) and the Eagles need to get the run game going.

Not only is the run game the bread and butter for the Eagles offense, but they need to keep the Cowboys offense off the field due to the fact that their defense is unable to stop anyone. Philly should have success through the air as well against the Cowboys defense.

Sanchez has been playing great in place of Foles and he has thrown for 300+ passing yards in the last three games. The Eagles rank 4th in passing yards (293.1 PYPG) and they’ll be going up against the Cowboys 19th ranked passing defense (247.8 PYPG).

Players to Watch in DAL vs. PHI

Dez Bryant has been a beast in the last two games for the Cowboys and he seems to have turned the corner. He has 13 receptions for 244 yards and 4 TD’s in that time and now he gets to feast on an undersized Eagles secondary that won’t be able to stop him.

Jordan Matthews has now caught 50 receptions for 635 yards and 6 TD’s this season, but most of that production has come since Sanchez has been starting. Matthews seems to be the favorite target for Sanchez and he should be in line for another big game.

Eagles vs. Cowboys Picks

Dating back to 2012 the Cowboys are 3-1 in the H2H series although the game they lost was last year at home. This will likely be very close, but I’m siding with the home team in this one because they have a better defense and I trust Romo more than Sanchez.

The Cowboys defense will be able to put pressure on Sanchez and I like their chances of limiting the Eagles run game. The Eagles are very soft on defense and the Cowboys are rolling with Murray and now Bryant putting up consistently big numbers.
