Dallas Mavericks at Chicago Bulls Betting Odds

The Dallas Mavericks (27-14) have been reeling, losing six consecutive games prior to Wednesday’s contest with the Lakers. They dropped five straight on the road but all of them were minus leading scorer Dirk Nowitzki. Thursday the Mavericks will be looking to get back on “W” column against the always tough Chicago Bulls (28-14). The United Center crowd will be treated to big vs. small when 7’ Nowitzki battles hometown favorite 6’3” Derrick Rose. Chicago is favored by 3.5 and tip off is at 8 pm. The over/under is 186 at Bodog.com.

Mavericks vs Bulls NBA Game Preview

Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks are 2-8 in their last ten games. They had been a good road team prior to the Nowitzki injury with wins over San Antonio in November, plus Miami and Orlando in December.

2011 has been a different story as they have only two victories in the New Year. Point guard Jason Kidd may only be averaging 8.0 points a game but his 8.7 assists and on court composure make up the difference. Head coach Rick Carlisle has been challenged to find was to use shooting guard Jason Terry and his 15.6 points per game but sixth-man Shawn Marion has been a solid. Marion is adding 11 points in 26 minutes a game and is a superb defender.

DeShawn Stevenson can contribute off the bench witness his 24 points in a recent loss to Orlando but the Mavs without Nowitzki are not the Mavs. The big guy is back and rounding into form. He scored 32 in a 103-89 loss to Detroit on Monday. Look for his presence to be dominant inside against the smaller Bulls team.

Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls have been as inconsistent as any team over the past few weeks. Although 7-3 in their last ten, the Bulls own road losses to New Jersey, Philadelphia and Charlotte in that stretch while defeating Boston at home.

On Monday the Bulls beat Memphis 96-84 behind Luol Deng’s 28 points and Derrick Rose’s first career triple-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists. Carlos Boozer did not make the trip to Memphis due to an ankle injury offering Deng more time to shine. Kyle Korver offered 22 points off the bench. Joakim Noah did not play due to injury as well. Rose is averaging 23.8 points and 8.3 assists per game. Boozer leads the team with 10 rebounds a game. Chicago ranks seventh in defense yielding only 94 points a game.

Mavericks at Bulls Free Pick

This one is a dead even match-up with boozer’s health being the only wild card. Deng won’t be able to dominate inside against Nowitzki nor keep him back defensively. Look for the Mavericks’ big gun to score 30+ but the Bulls to pull it out behind MBP candidate Derrick Rose.
