Cowboys vs. Chargers Point Spread Odds

The Dallas Cowboys (1-0, 1-0 ATS) are looking for their second preseason road dog win when they travel to Qualcomm Stadium to take on the San Diego Chargers (1-0, 1-0 ATS). Dallas has just a single field goal from week 1 and preseason bettors can expect to see some more inspired offensive efforts from them on Saturday.

The Chargers had no problem putting up points in their opener and should do more of the same in front of the their home fans this weekend. This game is on Saturday (August 18, 2012) 9 PM ET.

Dallas Already Battling Injuries

Dallas is definitely reeling this week after losing tight end Jason Witten (2 rec, 8 yds) to a spleen injury in their 3-0 win over the Oakland Raiders (0-1, 0-1) earlier this week. While this is a huge blow to the Cowboys’ regular season hopes, it adds an element of intrigue to the preseason.

With John Phillips (who sat out the Oakland game with an injury), James Hanna (1 rec, 13 yds) and Andrew Szczerba (1 rec, 20 yds) now battling for a potential starting position, they’ll all be giving a meaningless preseason game some serious effort.

Tony Romo went 3-6 for 30 yards against Oakland and won’t be playing more than a series or two tonight. When he is in, expect him to to hit the TE’s as he is auditioning a potential Witten replacement.

Romo’s backup, Kyle Orton (7-12, 87 yds, 1 INT) is a competent QB and should see plenty of snaps in this game. He’s still learning the Cowboys systems and should put up more points than he did in Oakland, a goal that could be achieved with a single touchdown.

We’re not holding out hope the already battered Cowboys will be doing anything but just getting their acts together tonight.

San Diego Ready to Rev Up Offense

San Diego saw some solid play from Phillip Rivers’ backup Jarret Lee who is eager to step into the main spot on the Chargers someday. Lee completed 15-22 for 235 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. There’s no reason to think that he won’t have another big night tonight.

After a stellar career at LSU, the SEC-seasoned rookie can play like a seasoned professional. Watch for Lee to see plenty of time on the field on Saturday and connect with WR Vincent Brown (4 rec, 87 yds, 1 TD).

Defensively, the Chargers looked pretty good while hold Green Bay to just 13 points last week. The SD defense also forced three fumbles and picked up an interception. Not too shabby for week 1 of the preseason.

DAL vs. SD Betting Analysis

San Diego is nowhere near as battered as the Cowboys and they have a powerhouse QB who’s already reveling in the high powered NFL. We like the Chargers’ chances of stealing this one away from the Cowboys, but aren’t so sure about the O37.
