Chiefs vs. Eagles Week 3 NFL Betting Preview

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles – Week 3 TNF

Kick-Off: Thursday, September 19th 2013 at 8:25pm ET
Stadium: Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Live: NFL Network

The Kansas City Chiefs moved to 2-0 on the season with a hard-fought 17-16 win over the Cowboys at Arrowhead. They weren’t able to cover the point spread after allowing a late FG, but they limited Romo and the Cowboys offense throughout most of the game.

The Philadelphia Eagles struggled last week at home against the Chargers and dropped to 1-1 on the season. Philadelphia was one of the big favorites in week 2, but they went down early. The Eagles tied the game in the 4th quarter, but the Chargers hit a late FG.

KC vs. PHI Thursday Night Football Odds

Philadelphia is opening up as a favorite at home despite losing last week to the Chargers. The Eagles opened at –3 points and right now you can get –3.5 (-105) at Bovada. The over/under opened at 49.5 points, but early action has the total up to O/U 50.5 points.

Will Andy Reid Be Able to Beat His Former Team in Philadelphia?

Andy Reid isn’t familiar with the new look Eagles offense run by Chip Kelly, but he is familiar with the players and he should be able to exploit weaknesses in match-ups throughout the game. I give the edge to Reid in the coaching match-up this week in Philly.

Alex Smith is the QB that everyone expected so far for the Chiefs. He has completed 60% of his passes for 396 yards and 4 TD’s. He hasn’t thrown a single INT yet, which is why Smith is so valuable to this team. The star on this team is still RB Jamaal Charles.

Charles hasn’t been that great on the ground yet. He has 32 carries for 132 rushing yards and 1 TD, but he has also hauled in a team leading 11 receptions (71 Yards & 1 TD). The Eagles have allowed 30 PPG on defense and this Chiefs offense should be able to score.

Kansas is only gaining 303 yards on offense through two games, but the Eagles defense has allowed 461 total yards per game, which is just way too many for an NFL defense. Charles should have a field day in the rushing and passing game this week against the Eagles.

Can the Eagles Bounce Back After Losing at Home?

The Eagles offense took awhile to get going against the Chargers last week. They only had 10 points by the 1H, but the offense woke up in the 2H and scored 20 points. Chip Kelly will ensure that this high tempo offense puts up points week in and week out.

Kelly has been using Desean Jackson’s speed perfectly and getting the football often. Jackson already has two 100+ receiving games and he has a total of 16 receptions for 297 yards (2 TD’s). Lesean McCoy has been trouble for defenses as well so far.

McCoy has 42 carries for 237 yards (1 TD) plus he has already caught 6 receptions for 119 yards. McCoy is the type of RB that is able to make big plays when you get him the football in open space. It only takes 1 mistake for McCoy or Jackson to make you pay.

The best shot the Eagles have at winning this game is to put pressure on the Chiefs defense by playing up-tempo early. If the Eagles can keep the Chiefs defense on the field early they’ll be tired late, but I personally have no faith in this Eagles defense.

Kansas has only played the Jaguars and Cowboys, but they’ve held those two to an average of 9 PPG, 194 PYPG and 54 RYPG. I think the Chiefs are going to surprise the Eagles offense and my money is on the Chiefs pulling off the SU at Lincoln Financial Field.

Chiefs vs. Eagles Predictions

I think this game will come down to what defense can make the most stops. Kansas City is going to be tested, but with this being a nationally televised game I expect the defense to play up to their potential. This Chiefs defense doesn’t get much respect.

Look for them to zone in on McCoy early to make sure he doesn’t beat them for big plays. Alex Smith is very consistent at not losing a football game by making silly mistakes at QB. Look for Reid to manage this offense and keep the ball out of Philly’s hands.

Brandon Flowers didn’t practice today, but he is expected to play on Thursday for the Chiefs and he’ll be needed. Philadelphia is healthy for this Thursday night game. Will the Eagles defense be able to stop Charles and the Chiefs offense or not in week 3?
