We had a small taste of college football this past weekend, but now we have a full slate. We’re going to go through the week 1 schedule and discuss the best money line underdogs to bet on.

There are a lot of huge favorites playing this week, but there’s still some underdog value. I’ve picked the top four underdogs I expect to win straight-up on money line bets for week 1.

UCLA vs. Cincinnati Money Line Pick and Odds

UCLA Bruins Week 1 Pick 2019

Chip Kelly had a rough first year in California with the UCLA Bruins, as they went 3-9. They open this season against the Cincinnati Bearcats who finished last season with an 11-2 record.

These teams met in the season opener last year as well and the Bearcats won 26-17.

This game is going to be close. It’s in Cincinnati, which is a concern, but Kelly is always better in his second year as head coach and I expect the Bruins to exact revenge on the Bearcats.

QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson is expected to take a step forward. RB Joshua Kelly is a senior and is healthy for the upcoming year. I have the Bruins upsetting Cincy on the road on Thursday night.

The percent of bets has been basically split down the middle leading up to this one. Initially, this game opened up at -4 in favor of the Bearcats, but the point spread has dropped to -2.5 points.

Ole Miss vs. Memphis Money Line Pick and Odds

When: Saturday, August 31st 2019 at 12:00PM ET
Where: Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, TN

This match-up is on Saturday in Memphis and a huge game for both programs. This is a chance for the Tigers to get a statement win against an SEC team and the bookies have them favored.

It’s an important game for Ole Miss because they need this win if they want to be bowl eligible. I’ll be putting money on the SEC talent, which should be improved from last season.

Ole Miss is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings against Memphis. The Rebels lost nearly the entire offense, but they have filled in the holes admirably and this will be another high-paced offense.

Memphis is talented on offense as well and can hit home run plays regularly. This game is going to be a shootout between two offenses that are much better than the defenses these teams field.

With Ole Miss opening up the SEC schedule next week, they need this win. The team’s bowl ban has concluded and I’m sure the Rebels are motivated to get into a bowl game.

Virginia vs. Pittsburgh Money Line Pick and Odds

When: Saturday, August 31st 2019 at 7:30PM ET
Where: Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, PA

Pittsburgh Panthers Week 1 Pick 2019

This game is going to be a low-scoring, hard-hitting game. Pittsburgh won the ACC Coastal division last season with a 6-2 conference record, which includes a 23-13 win against Virginia.

The Panthers had a strong run game last season, but they lose RBs Darrin Hall and Qadree Ollison, so it’s important QB Kenny Pickett and the WR unit steps up in the passing game.

Virginia finished 4-4 in conference play last season (3rd Place in Coastal), but they’ll be improved, as they bring back most of their defense. However, the Cavaliers lack a pass rush.

Pickett should be able to get the air attack rolling early and if they get a lead at home, the Virginia offense will struggle to move the football, as the Panthers can dial up the pass rush.

#11 Oregon vs. #16 Auburn Money Line Pick and Odds

When: Saturday, August 31st 2019 at 7:30PM ET
Where: AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX

This is the game to watch on Saturday, as the Ducks and Tigers have big expectations. Auburn is favored and that’s largely due to the fact that the SEC has dominated the Pac-12 in recent years.

However, the Ducks are the better team. QB Justin Herbert is expected to be a first round pick and he has plenty of talent around him, although Auburn has one of the best defensive fronts.

The pressure will be on Herbert to perform against top competition on the road. His day should be made easier, though, as Oregon return all five starters on the offensive line.

On the other side of the field, Auburn will be starting true freshman QB Bo Nix. This isn’t the type of game you want to be making your first collegiate start in and I expect him to struggle.

If the Ducks can force a couple big turnovers, that’ll be enough to upset the Tigers.
