Buffalo Bills vs. NY Jets Lines

What: Buffalo Bills vs. NY Jets: NFL Week 1 Football
When: 1:00 pm EST. Sunday, September 9, 2012
Where: MetLife Stadium

The Buffalo Bills and New York Jets meet in an AFC East divisional match-up in week 1 of the NFL regular season. The Bills will be looking to get off to a fast start like they did last season, but playing their division rivals in week 1 is a tough proposition.

Latest Bills vs. Jets Betting Lines

The New York Jets opened as a -6 point favorite at home in this week 1 match-up, but that point spread has been bet down to -2.5 or -3 at most betting sites. The Bills vs. Jets over/under opened at 42.5 points, but has been bet down to just O/U 38.5.

For US bettors, we recommend BetOnline.com for straight bets, and Bovada.lv for live betting. Bovada’s live betting options might be the best (and most fun) in the industry, but their lines go up later than most other books. BetOnline posts their odds early, giving bettors a shot at early value they can’t get at Bovada.

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills opened last season with a 3-0 record, but they finished a miserable 6-10 (6-9-1 ATS). The Bills dealt with a lot of injuries at the midpoint of the season, but if they can stay healthy for a full season this team could make the playoffs.

The Bills ranked 15th in passing offense (218.3 PYPG), 13th in rushing offense (112.2 RYPG) and 14th in points (21.9 PPG). Signing two big DE’s in Mario Williams and Mark Anderson is going to instantly make this Bills defense better in 2012.

When the offense is healthy the Bills can score points with the best teams in the NFL. Their defense cost the team wins in 2011, but with an improved pass rush opposing offenses won’t have as much time to expose the Bills secondary.

New York Jets

The NY Jets were 0-4 during preseason (as were the Bills), but the Jets only scored one offensive TD in four preseason games. Until the offense starts scoring the Jets are going to be in big trouble in a tougher AFC East division.

Last year the Jets went 8-8 (6-10 ATS) and missed out on the playoffs, which was a big disappointment. Signing QB Tim Tebow was a big move by the Jets this off-season and it will put pressure on Mark Sanchez to perform better.

The New York Jets have one of the top 10 defenses in the NFL, but the offense isn’t good enough. Shonn Greene could prove to be a #1 RB, but there are question marks as to whether or not Greene can handle 20+ carries per game in the NFL.

Buffalo Bills vs. NY Jets Betting Picks

Bills/Jets Point Spread

The latest point spread has the Jets favored by 2.5 to 3 points over the Bills, which is essentially telling us that bettors are giving the Jets a field goal for the home field advantage. The Jets didn’t show us much on the offensive side during the preseason, and they still have issues at the QB position.

The Bills are healthy and hungry to win this season, and I’m picking them to win outright. So, I’m giving up the 1/2 point we can get at Bovada, and taking the Bills +2.5 (+100) at BetOnline instead. Expecting the outright win, I’m willing to give up the 1/2 point for +100.

Money Line

My best bet is the Bills money line at +120. I like betting small underdogs on the money line in the NFL due to the plus money payout, and the Bills can definitely win this game. I’d avoid the Jets on the ML, as the current Jets money line is only paying -140 (bet $140 to win $100).

Over/Under

The current New York Jets vs. Buffalo Bills over/under is 38.5 points (down from 42.5). The sharps have bet the under in this match-up, but if you like the under you missed the boat. I’d avoid the O/U in this game and focus on other match-ups instead. If you’re a fan looking to add some fun to the game, I’d recommend the over at this point.
