Buccaneers vs. Vikings Point Spread

What: Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Minnesota Vikings – Week 8 TNF
When: 8:30PM EST. Thursday, October 25th 2012
Where: Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minnesota

At first glance this Thursday night football game might not interest you, but the Minnesota Vikings 5-2 (3-3-1 ATS) have been one of the biggest storylines of the season. The Vikings will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2-4 (4-2 ATS) who need a win badly.

The Buccaneers aren’t going to catch the 6-0 Falcons in the NFC South this season, but they still have an outside chance of being one of the wild cards in the conference, as most teams are bunched up closely in the NFC conference through seven weeks.

Latest TB vs. MIN Point Spread

Early action has come in on the Vikings at home this week and the opening point spread of -5.5 points has jumped to -6.5 – 7 pts. I like the road underdog Buccaneers on Thursday and the best line on them right now is +7 (-125) at the Bovada Sportsbook.

Buccaneers vs. Vikings TNF Week 8 Preview

Tampa Bay almost forced OT at home against the Saints last weekend, but they ended up losing 35-28. The Bucs had a 21-7 lead in the 2nd quarter, but the Saints offense woke up. The only good news about last week was the Bucs offense lighting it up.

Josh Freeman completed 24/42 passes for 420 passing yards and 3 TD’s. Vincent Jackson gained 216 yards on 7 receptions and he has been putting up big numbers with the Bucs this season. Having Jackson has also opened up Mike Williams in most games.

This past week the Vikings won 21-14 at home against the Cardinals, but the passing game was horrible. Christian Ponder had just 8 completions on 17 attempts for 58 passing yards, 1 TD and 2 INT’s. Thankfully, Peterson had 153 rushing yards and 1 TD.

The Cardinals have a good defense, but they actually struggle against the run. The Buccaneers rank 3rd in rushing defense, as the defense only allows an average of 76 RYPG. The secondary allows 323 PYPG (31st), but Ponder isn’t much of a threat at QB.

Defensively the Vikings have bent, but not broken the entire season. They rank 6th in points allowed (18.7 PPG) and at home they allow even less points. The Buccaneers rank 12th in scoring with an average of 24.7 PPG, but scoring on the Vikings won’t be easy.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Minnesota Vikings Predictions

Bet on the Buccaneers +7 (-125) @ Bovada

You may be able to wait and get +7 (-110) later in the week, as the spread has been climbing this week already. The Bucs should be able to stay in this game and have a chance to win it at the end. If they shutdown Peterson their chances of winning are huge.

Minnesota has a 1-dimensional offense and the Bucs are great at stopping the run. Tampa Bay needs a win much worse than the Vikings as well, so I expect them to come out with some urgency after running out of time in a shootout this past week at home.
