Buccaneers Home Underdogs Against the Dolphins

Miami Dolphins vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Preview

When: Sunday, November 11th 2013 at 8:30pm ET
Where: Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida
Watch: Live on the ESPN Network

The Miami Dolphins 4-4 (4-4 ATS) play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 0-8 (2-6 ATS) on Monday Night Football. I have to admit this game doesn’t excite me too much. We have two of the worst offenses in the NFL; so don’t expect too many points to be scored in this one.

This point spread opened at –3.5 in favor of the Dolphins, but it was bet down to –1 this week due to reports that Doug Martin was making his return this week. However, Martin won’t be playing this week and now the spread has been back on its way up.

Can the Dolphins Stay in the AFC Wild Card Hunt

Miami started the season 3-0, but they followed that up with four consecutive losses. They should have lost last week as well on TNF against the Bengals, but Cincy couldn’t put them away when they had the chance and Miami ended up winning in OT on a safety.

When you look at the Dolphins schedule it hasn’t been easy. Apart from the loss to the Bills the Dolphins have overachieved and I’m expecting them to try and end this week’s game early. Miami has also had more time to prepare since they played last Thursday.

On paper the Dolphins don’t look like a 4-4 team in the AFC wild card hunt. Miami averages 21.8 PPG (19th), 217.6 PYPG (16th) and 97.6 RYPG (22nd) on offense while the defense is allowing 252.2 PYPG (22nd), 116.5 RYPG (22nd) and 23.4 PPG (16th).

To win this game Ryan Tannehill has to play well without turning the football over. Tannehill has had his great games this season, but he has also had some duds. He has thrown for 1977 yards and 11 TD’s through eight games, but he has also tossed 9 INT’s.

Will the Buccaneers Find the Win Column in Week 10

For the Buccaneers to have any chance of winning they need their defense to step up and play well at home. The Buccaneers were supposed to have one of the top defenses in the NFL, but they’ve allowed 23.8 PPG (17th), 240.5 PYPG (15th) and 107.5 RYPG (12th).

Tampa Bay has forced 16 turnovers on defense this season and they need to try and win the turnover battle. Tannehill has thrown a lot of interceptions and the Bucs could steal this game. Even if the defense plays well the offense will still have to score points.

Unfortunately, the Buccaneers offense has been amongst the worst. The Buccaneers average 15.5 PPG (31st), 196.8 PYPG (31st) and 107.5 RYPG (18th) offensively. Their best bet is to run the football with Mike James who is averaging 4.6 rush yards per attempt.

Mike Glennon has started to develop chemistry with Vincent Jackson and he should have a big game. Jackson is averaging 14.7 yards per reception and he leads the team with 4 TD receptions. The problem with Glennon has been his inconsistency in his five starts.

This is one of the most winnable games for the Buccaneers, so it’ll be interesting to see how they come out and play. Miami also has had some bullying issues in the locker room and there has been a ton of media following the Dolphins this week.

Dolphins vs. Buccaneers Predictions

I can’t bet on a winless team at this point in the season until they can show me that they can win. The Bucs almost pulled off a huge road upset over the Seahawks last week, but they couldn’t hang on and I think that’s why this point spread is under a FG this week.

These teams don’t play often, so there is no point looking at the H2H. This game will come down to what offense performs better on Sunday. Both defenses are weak and can be scored on, but both offenses struggle with consistency and at times look terrible.

Miami is still in the wild card hunt with seven games left on the schedule and they need this game more than Tampa. The Dolphins can’t afford losing to a winless team if they want to have any hope of making a playoff appearance this season.
