When: 8:30 pm EST. Monday, September 17, 2012
Where: Georgia Dome

Both the Denver Broncos 1-0 (1-0 ATS) and Atlanta Falcons 1-0 (1-0 ATS) started the season off great. The Broncos and Peyton Manning took down the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-19, and the Falcons won 40-24 on the road in Kansas City.

For week 2 Monday Night Football, the Falcons host the Broncos at the Georgia Dome, in what should be one of the best games of the week.

Denver Broncos

Peyton Manning played a great game in his Broncos debut last week. He completed 19 of 26 passes for 253 yards and 2 TD’s (0 INT’s). The Broncos only ran for 94 yards, but managed 3.96 yds per carry and 1 TD (Knowshon Moreno). Willis McGahee led the rushing attack with 16 carries and 64 yards. Lance Ball and Moreno added a combined 7 carries for 27 yards. It was a mediocre running day overall, but the Broncos runningbacks should be more effective against the Falcons.

Denver’s defense was great in week 1 against the Steelers. They allowed just 209 passing yards (10th) and 75 rushing yards (8th). Atlanta will be airing it out again this week, so the Broncos secondary will need to stick like glue. The Steelers targeted CB Tracy Porter’s side all day long, staying away from Champ Bailey for the most part. Porter not only stepped up, but he also had a huge pick 6 with 2 minutes left in the game – sticking a fork in the Steelers day.

With the way the Falcons played on defense last week this game could end up very close. The Broncos runningbacks will need to play better this week against a weak Falcons run defense. If the Broncos can run the ball well, Manning should be able to find open receivers down field.

Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons beat the Chiefs 40-24 at Arrowhead, and the offense looked great from the 1st snap. Catching 6 passes for 108 yards and 2 TD’s last week, Julio Jones looks like he could be the top WR in the NFL this year. Roddy White had 6 catches for 87 yards, and TE Tony Gonzalez added 5 receptions for 53 yards and 1 TD.

While the passing game was on point, the Falcons runningbacks only gained 59 yards on 20 carries (2.95 yds/carry). The ability of the Falcons offense to establish the run (or not) may have a huge impact on the results of this game.

Roddy White has been limited in practice this week, but it appears that he’ll play on Monday night. He’s currently listed as probable.

Atlanta won in week 1 without a problem, but there were concerns on the defense. The Falcons allowed 393 total yards (26th) including 152 yards on the ground. Peyton Manning could potentially put up some big numbers on the Falcons D, giving the Broncos a legitimate shot at winning this game.

Broncos/Falcons Point Spread

Atlanta looks like they want to make a statement early this season. The offense is one of the best in the NFL, but they’ll have to score against a stronger defense this week. I don’t expect 40+ points, but I do think the Falcons will win this home game straight-up. I’d like to see -2.5 on the Falcons, but at the moment the spread is -3 pts. I don’t like giving up 3 on the Falcons, or getting 3 on the Broncos. I going to wait and see what we can get as we get closer to game time.

Denver Broncos Point Spread

If you prefer Denver in this game, the best Broncos point spread is +3 (-105) at BetOnline. I haven’t bet the Broncos vs. Falcons point spread yet, as I’m waiting to see where the line goes. If we can get the Broncos +3.5 (-110) or better, I’ll take that bet. I think this is a good possibility, mainly because the public is high on the Falcons right now, and they’re playing at home. Keep an eye on the point spread as Monday moves along, and jump on if the Broncos become bigger dogs. To view the latest Broncos vs. Falcons point spread, visit BetOnline.com.

Atlanta Falcons Point Spread

The best Falcons point spread is currently -3 (-110) at Bovada. I’d like to see this line go to -2.5 (-110) or better, and I’ll take this bet if it comes. I don’t think we’ll get this, and expect to see the Falcons become 1/2 – 1 point bigger favorites before the game begins.

Denver Broncos vs. Atlanta Falcons Money Line

The Broncos (+140) vs. Atlanta Falcons (-160) money line doesn’t present much interest to me. I expect the Falcons to win, but the game could go either way. The question is whether the money line or point spread is offering more value.

Denver Broncos Money Line

If you like the Broncos straight-up, of course you’ll get a better payout on the money line. Being on the road, I think the point spread is a smarter bet. Since I’m expecting the Falcons to win a close one, I wouldn’t want to take the Broncos without the points. However, if you think the Broncos are going to win this outright, +140 on the money line is the way to go.

Atlanta Falcons Money Line

I don’t see any point risking -160 on the Falcons money line when you can push on a field goal at -110. If you want to bet on the Falcons, I recommend the point spread instead of the money line.

Broncos vs. Falcons Over/Under

I never like betting the over when the total is 50 points or higher. When the Broncos vs. Falcons over/under opened at 48 the over had better value. With the O/U now up to 52, I think the under is the smarter bet. The Falcons won’t score as much against this Broncos defense as they did against the Chiefs, and I don’t expect Manning to light up the Falcons secondary at the Georgia Dome. I see this game going something like 27-21, but even 27-24 is a win for the under.

I’m taking the under of 52 (-110) at BetOnline.com.
