Brazil v Germany Betting Tips – 2014 WC Semi-Final

Brazil v Germany World Cup Semi-Final Match Preview

Kick-Off: Tuesday, July 8th 2014 at 4:00pm ET
Location: Estadio Mineirao in Belo Horizonte
Network: Watch on ESPN & CBC Sports

Brazil looked great in their QF match against Colombia. Thiago Silva opened the scoring in the 7th minute on a corner and David Luiz scored the GWG on an incredible free kick from far out. Colombia scored one late goal, but it wasn’t enough and they lost 2-1.

Germany played a tactically sound match against France and advanced with a 1-0 win. Mats Hummels scored in the 13th minute and the Germans were able to hang on. The defense played great, but they need to increase their pace on offense against the Brazilians.

Germany v Brazil Semi-Final Odds

I’m a little surprised that the Germans are available at +180 odds due to the injuries and suspended players. However, I can also see the Brazilians fighting for a penalty shootout and keeping players back on defense, especially with the injury to Neymar.

How Brazil can Advance to the Finals

Neymar has been ruled out for the rest of the World Cup after suffering a fractured vertebra. Thiago Silva is also out after picking up his second yellow card in the QF’s. With two key pieces missing, Luiz Scolari will have limited time to execute a new game plan.

Brazil only had six shots on target against Colombia. Will they be able to penetrate the German back line without their superstar? I feel that the best way for the Brazilians to advance is to force a penalty shootout or capitalize on their limited counterattacks.

How Germany can Advance to the Finals

Joachim Loew is a tactical wizard, but my opinion is that he needs to open up the attack against Brazil. I expect the Brazilians to start the match off shaky with two major contributors out of the match, which Loew and the Germans needs to try and exploit.

With the likes of Thomas Muller, Mesut Ozil and Mario Gotze, the Germans could potentially overwhelm the Brazilian back line. The goal for Germany should be to score out of the gate and put a ton of added pressure on the Neymar-less Brazil squad.

Germany @ Brazil H2H

The Germans have historically done poorly against the Brazilians (4W-5D-12L), but they won the last international match in 2011 (3-2). The last time these countries met in the World Cup was back in the 2002 WC Finals where Brazil beat Germany 2-0.

Brazil v Germany Predictions

I went against Brazil when they beat Colombia and that was a mistake. Am I falling for the same trap again? I expect Germany to be able to keep a clean sheet. Teams that are dealt big injuries usually bond together as a unit, but Brazil will have a lot of pressure.

The entire country feels like their chances at winning the World Cup are over without Neymar. Germany has also stepped up their defensive effort. Manuel Neuer earned his third clean sheet of the tournament in the QF and he looked great in goal.

Best Bets for 2014 World Cup Semi-Final #1

Scolari has been stubborn in the past, but I expect Hulk to move to striker in this match. Hulk is scoreless and has been ineffective on the wing. With Neymar out this is the perfect time to move him up. I expect Hulk to step up in this match and I like him to score.

The key to this bet winning is an early goal by the Germans. This would cause Brazil to panic and the pitch would start to open up for both teams. Brazil would have to push forward looking for the equalizer while leaving them susceptible to allowing another goal.

Brazil put a lot of early pressure on Colombia and they may look to do the exact same even without Neymar. Germany has a solid back line, but if Brazil can open up the pitch on counterattacks they have the skill upfront to capitalize on their opportunities.

Only bet a 0.25 unit on this wager, as it’s a long shot, but I like it. I really expect Loew to send his guys out with the plan to attack the Brazilians early before they settle in. If Germany scores a quick one I could definitely see this match being 2-0 by halftime.
