Brazil v Colombia Betting Preview – 2014 World Cup QF

When: Friday, July 4th 2014 at 4:00pm ET
Where: Estadio Castelao in Fortaleza, Brazil
Watch: ESPN & CBC Sports

Brazil advanced against Chile in the Round of 16, but they needed penalty kicks. Julio Cesar was excellent in goal, but wasn’t tested too much until the shootout. David Luiz gave Brazil the lead (1-0), but Chile evened up the match in the 1H.

Colombia secured a 2-0 victory over Uruguay in their opening knockout stage match. James Rodriguez scored a goal in each half of the match and he’s now the top goalscorer in the tournament (5 Goals). Will he be able to continue his scoring dominance?

Latest 1X2 & Over/Under Odds in Colombia v Brazil

I knew that the host nation would be favored to win this match, but these odds are surprising to say the least. Colombia is paying a huge price to win the match without needing extra time and I personally don’t think that they’re going to need any ET to win.

Will the World Cup Hosts Squeak Out Another Win?

I honestly expect the host nation to be knocked out against Colombia, but this is going to be an incredible match. Neymar has four goals in the World Cup and Brazil has eight total as a team through four matches, which is lower than many experts expected.

Fred only has one goal in the tournament while Hulk and Willian have been held scoreless. Coming into the tournament there were question marks about the Colombian defense, but David Ospina has only conceded two goals and already has two clean sheets.

Another reason I like Colombia is because Luiz Gustavo will miss the match after receiving his second yellow card last match. He is a strong defensive midfielder and with him out Paulinho is likely back in, which is a definite downgrade and will hurt Brazil’s back line.

Brazil has only conceded three goals this tournament, but the defense has been shaky. Rodriguez is stealing the show at the WC and I expect him to find space in the box. Juan Cuadrado leads the tournament with four assists and will open up space down the wing.

The weight on Brazil is massive and they don’t seem to be dealing with the pressure overly well. They were lucky to make it through against Chile. Chile had plenty of chances to beat the Brazilians, but was unable to take advantage of the opportunities.

I could easily see this match ending 1-0 Colombia or 3-1 Colombia, so the over/under market doesn’t interest me. Colombia won’t be intimidated by the Brazilians, especially after watching Chile almost win. Rodriguez will score and be the man of the match.

Colombia v Brazil World Cup Quarter-Final Best Bets

Since I’m going with Colombia to win it’s only right that I add a Rodriguez / Colombia double at 8/1 odds. Rodriguez is likely to score in the match if Colombia does win and these odds can’t be passed up. I’d put at least a ½ unit on this bet along with Colombia SU.

Rodriguez has looked great all tournament and he scored arguably the best goal of the tournament in his last match. Brazil’s defense has held up fine, but at times they’ve looked shaky and a cohesive offensive unit like Colombia should create a lot of opportunities.

You can also bet on over 10.5 corners at better odds, but I’m more willing to risk the juice at over 9.5 corners. Brazil is averaging 7.0 corners per match through four games. Colombia is only averaging 3.5 corners per match, but they’ve conceded a total of 23.

Don’t bet too much on these two, but if you’re a $100 bettor I recommend putting $10 on each at least. I feel that we’re going to see goals in this match by Colombia. Brazil hasn’t looked great in the tournament and Colombia has the firepower to test them.
