Bovada Sportsbook

Bovada.lv offers a mobile sportsbook available for Apple iPhone, iPad, Android, Samsung, and all internet enabled mobile devices. If they don’t have an app specific for your device, you can use the generic app which works well on any type of smartphone or tablet. The mobile casino (free and real money games) recently opened for business as well, but mobile poker is not yet available. For more information about the mobile casino, games, and bonuses, please scroll down this page.

Formerly known as Bodog (rebranded as Bovada for U.S. customers), Bovada was established in 1994, making them one of the oldest online sportsbooks. They accept Visa credit & debit cards – a deposit option that generally takes 2-4 minutes to complete. Other deposit options are available as well, but Visa is the easiest. Also, they seem to have the highest deposit success-rate of all U.S. sportsbooks, giving handicappers another good reason to bet here.

Bovada has a reputation for being one of the few online sportsbooks that bettors can always trust. Like every U.S. online sportsbook, Bovada has occasional issues with deposits & withdrawals – but not because they’re trying to stop you from depositing or because they want to keep your money. They may have to jump through a few hoops, but they always get customers paid.

They offer betting for all of the most popular US sports, plus all major international sports. They have a great live betting platform, possibly the best available for U.S. residents. In recent months, Bovada has been adding more & more games for live betting, and more bets per game as well.

For the most common types of bets, the vig at Bovada is standard for the industry. For example, a bet on an NFL or NBA point spread will have a 10% vig, like almost everywhere else. The same can be said for NFL or NBA over/under (game total) bets. So, for most bets that people want to make, the vig is right where it should be. Bovada also offers dime lines for MLB, and a few other sports as well.

With that said, the vig on money lines & prop bets at Bovada is typically higher than other sites. Although the best money lines can be found here from time to time, that’s not usually the case – so we encourage bettors to shop around.

Bovada also posts many of their lines very late. For example, NFL, NCAA, NBA point spreads are posted early, but money lines and over/under odds usually don’t get posted until 24-48 hours before game time. Although late value can be found at Bovada, this makes it more difficult (or impossible) to find early value.

Sports Betting Apps

The Bovada mobile sportsbook is very easy to use, possibly the cleanest design of any mobile betting apps. Text and buttons are large & easy to use, and placing a bet takes a matter of seconds. There are no flashing banners, confusing navigation, or anything else to distract us. When betting from a mobile device (especially on a phone), this is exactly what we’re asking for.

There is literally nothing else to explain, as the betting apps are so well designed that anyone can use them without prior information.

Sports Betting, Casino, and Poker Bonus Codes

When using any of our links to Bovada, whether it be the sportsbook, casino, or poker room, you are automatically eligible for all of the bonuses listed below, without the need to input bonus codes during the deposit process. Here are the current Bovada bonuses being offered:

Sportsbook Bonus

50% up to $250. Bonus money available 30 minutes after deposit is processed. This is a new player bonus, only available on first deposits. 5x rollover on sports and horse racing.

Casino Bonus

100% up to $3000. This bonus is broken into three deposits of 100% up to $1000 each. Keep this in mind if you’re planning to deposit more than $1000. For example, if you’re planning on depositing $2500 – make one deposit of $1000, another for $1000 more, then a third deposit for the remaining $500. If you make a single deposit for $2500 you will only earn bonus based on the first $1000. With that said, you would still be eligible for two more deposit bonuses, each for 100% up to $1000.

25x rollover requirement. All games except live dealer and craps apply to rollover. Rollover contribution is determined by game. Slots and specialty games contribute at a rate of 100%. Tables games contribute at a rate of 20%. Video poker contributes at 10%. Blackjack, roulette, and baccarat contribute at 5%.

Rates of contribution are determined by the house edge of each game, which is essentially standard for the industry.

Once again, craps and live dealer games do not apply to rollover contribution.

Poker Bonus

100% up to $500. The Bovada poker bonus code is embedded in all of our links, but you may want to write down code PWB500 and use it during the deposit process just to make sure.

The poker bonus is issued in $5 increments as you earn it (150 Rewards Points per $5). Players have 30 days to clear as much of the eligible bonus as they can.

Bovada.lv Mobile Casino App (Free and Real Money)

Bovada Mobile Casino Homepage on an Apple iPhoneThe Bovada mobile casino is now open! Sorry to get so excited, but it’s been a long time coming, and Bovada is one of the few USA friendly online casinos we’re willing to deposit real money. They opened the mobile casino in late March of 2013, starting with 7 of the most popular games.

These include blackjack, roulette, and 5 slot games. The slot games are Mr. Vegas, SlotFather, Safari Sam, Three Wishes, and Lucky Seven. They’re claiming they will be adding new games on a very frequent basis. When they do, we’ll update this list.

To get players started, the Bovada mobile casino is offering new players two bonuses of up to $3000.00 total. There is a bonus for slots players, and another for blackjack & roulette players (although you can get both, if you play both). The slots bonus is 100% up to $500, and is available for each of your first four deposits. For blackjack & roulette, the bonus is 100% up to $250, and can also be used four times. To get the mobile casino bonuses, follow these directions:

To Play Slots:

1/ Write down this slots bonus code: SLOTS500
2/ Using your mobile device, go to the Bovada Mobile Casino.
3/ Enter the bonus code when requested during the deposit process.

To Play Blackjack and/or Roulette:

2/ Using your mobile device, go to the Bovada Mobile Casino.
3/ Enter the bonus code when requested during the deposit process.

Mobile Poker Games

The Bovada mobile poker room works within your iOS or Android browser, with no app necessary. We play poker here on a weekly basis, and aside from not knowing your opponents names, we love it here.

The benefit of playing in your browser vs within an app is that it requires no memory usage from your device. On a computer it’s not a big deal, but on a 32 GB phone it is. We rarely run into connection problems, and when we do it’s usually on our side. Summed up – if your internet connection is decent, Bovada Poker will perform well on your smartphone.

Poker Games Selection

Of course the most popular game is Texas Hold’em, but Bovada also offers Omaha and Omaha Hi/Lo – exclusively in cash games. They do not offer any Stud, Razz, or mixed games.

Zone Poker

Zone Poker is a cash game for those of us with ADHD. After being dealt your hole cards, as soon as you hit Fold Now you are moved to another table and dealt another hand. It doesn’t matter when you fold, it can be pre-flop, or any other time during the hand, and this will happen.

If you hit Check/Fold, as soon as someone bets, the same will happen. If nobody bets, the hand will continue until you fold or the hand is completed, whichever comes first.

Zone poker allows players to see far more hands than they would in a regular cash game. Because of this, it’s also a lot more fun – and potentially more profitable for good players. However, if you’re a bad player, you’ll just lose your money faster.

People who are new to Zone Poker often think the best strategy is to get extremely tight and wait for monster starting hands, folding pre-flop a lot more often. The problem with this strategy is that you will be on the blind more often too, and if you aren’t seeing many flops it’s harder to beat the rake – let alone make a profit.

Our suggestion for winning at Zone Poker is to open up your range and see lots of cheap flops (pre-flop opens of 3x or less) with starting hands that offer big potential. Hands like 6, 8 suited, when they hit, are more likely to win you a big pot in Zone Poker than in a regular cash game.

The reason for this is that the style of Zone Poker encourages both, disbelief and bad play. People get into a mode of playing fast, fast, fast, which means they’re often spending less time thinking about the correct play. Decisions tend to be more emotional, and many players are steaming from previous hands.

If you hit post-flop and feel strongly about your hand, don’t be shy about over-betting. Opponents tend to overvalue their hands in Zone Poker, plus overbets also tend to encourage disbelief (if you actually had a big hand why would you bet so big?). In many cases, if your opponent is willing to call a bet of 1/2 the pot, they’ll also be willing to call a full pot sized bet – so get paid when you have a monster. And if they weren’t willing to call to your full-pot sized bet, they wouldn’t have called a 1/2 pot sized bet either. So, you have to go for it when you make your big hands. You’ll generally get paid off more often than you would in a regular cash game, so you should be using the stye of the game to your benefit.

Another important tip for playing Zone Poker is to keep your wits about you. Don’t let the fast pace of the game disrupt your rational thinking. Don’t let previous hands affect your decision making now. If you do a better job of this than your opponents, you already have an edge in the game.

Sit-n-Go Tournaments

The Bovada poker room offers all of the typical single table (2, 6 and 9 handed) and multi table sit-n-go tournaments. They have a wide variety of buy-ins and blind structures, and the most popular SNG’s are busy all day & night, making it easy to find a game.

Beginner Tournaments: Beginner tournaments are 6 handed, have buy-ins that range from $4.40 to $35, and pay out the top 3 players. The difference here versus a typical 6 handed SNG is that 3 places are paid instead of 2. For example, a $4 + $.40 ($4.40) pays $12 for first, $7.20 for second, and $4.80 for third. So if you make 3rd place you will get your money back plus $.40, but you’re really shooting for first or second place.

Players start with 1500 chips and blind levels are 10 minutes each. Blinds are 10/20, 15/30, 25/50, 50/100, 75/150, 100/200, 150/300 + 30 ante, 200/400 + 40 ante, 250/500 + 50 ante, and so forth.

Bovada also offers a $64 + 6 turbo beginners tournament. These are also 6 handed and pay the top three, but they have 5 minute blind levels.

Double-Up SNG’s: Bovada Poker also offers a lot of double-up sit-n-go tournaments in 6 handed format. For example, a $10 double-up will have 6 players, and the top three make the money – each taking a $20 prize.

Double-ups are very popular on the site, which means that players of all skill levels are playing these. For smart, analytical types of players, this is an easy game to beat in the long-term.

There is a clear difference in the skill level of the average player at the $5 level from the $10 level, but not as significant as it is between the $10 and $20 levels. At the $5 level you will see a lot of novice players, along with nighttime drunks – mixed with some players who are actually ok- albeit very ABC players. At the $10 level you will see fewer of the novices & drunks, replaced mostly by more ABC players. As mentioned, the $20 level brings a distinct difference in the average skill levels – with most players having a much better understanding of the strategy of this game style. This can be good or bad, depending on how well you adjust.

At or above the $20 level, these games become a war of attrition. Nearly every one of these double-ups get into very high blinds relative to stack sizes, with 4, 5, or even all 6 players vying for the top 3 spots. When this happens, any random hand could be the end of it. For example, there are only 9,000 chips on the table. With four players left, the average stack is 2,250. With five players, the average stack is 1,800. And of course with 6 player, the average stack is the same as each player started with, just 1500 chips. So, when the blinds are 200/400, even at a 4 handed table, the average stack is just 5.6 big blinds. When you include the small blind and 4 antes of 40, the pot is 760 before anyone looks at their cards.

Yes, there is a lot of luck that comes into play at this point, but smart position play, well-timed patience, and your table reputation are all critical elements at this stage.

In these tournaments, winning small pots early in the game when the blinds are small don’t matter a whole lot. Winning a pot of 60 chips won’t do you much good when the blinds are 200/400 or higher, so there are only two reasons to play early hands – to win BIG pots, and to develop your table rep. What this means is, you should be folding more hands post-flop than you might in a different type of tournament, and certainly more than you would in a cash game. It means you should be chasing your draws less often – unless the math is well on your side, and if your made hand will translate into a sizable winning pot. If you’re playing against a guy who bluffs a lot or overbets, you should be more inclined to play against him, but more inclined to fold against a tighter player who is less likely to pay you off. Remember, those little pot wins won’t help you much later, so don’t blow off 1/3rd of your stack chasing against the wrong opponents and in the wrong situations. Hold onto your chips for when you can do more damage later in the tournament.

Account & Funds Security

The main reason Bovada gets our #1 ranking for American customers is because this is a book they can trust. There is nothing a sportsbook can do that is more important than keeping our accounts and funds safe, and this is never an issue at Bovada.
