Bet on Auburn to Cover ATS Over Alabama – CFB Week 14

#15 Auburn Tigers vs. #1 Alabama Crimson Tide Preview

When: Saturday, November 29th 2014 at 7:45pm ET
Where: Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama
Watch: Live on ESPN

The Alabama Crimson Tide 10-1 (3-8 ATS) and Auburn Tigers 8-3 (4-7 ATS) have both been terrible for bettors this season. This is like a championship game for Auburn, as they have no shot of entering the playoff, but it’s also a game Alabama can’t afford to lose.

Auburn vs. Alabama Betting Lines

Bet on the Auburn vs. Alabama Game at the Bovada Sportsbook ($250 Cash Bonus).

With the recent history between these two teams I didn’t expect the spread to be above a TD. About 65% of the action is on Bama to cover currently. The over/under is relatively high, but these two teams tend to put up points when playing each other.

Tigers vs. Crimson Tide Point Spread Betting Analysis

Since losing to Ole Miss, Bama has won six games in a row, but three of them have been very close. The offense isn’t great, but the defense has been strong most of the season. Bama is only allowing 14.5 PPG (2nd), 85.3 RYPG (2nd) and 198.2 PYPG (27th).

Auburn comes into this game with a strong run game (266.2 PYPG – 9th), but a very limited pass game (210.2 PYPG – 83rd). As a result of this, the Tigers offense is scoring 35.1 PPG (29th), but they’ve had trouble punching it in against some of the tougher defenses.

In Alabama’s lone loss they were eaten up through the air on some big plays, but their run defense has been excellent all year and that’ll hurt Auburn’s chances. Cameron Artis-Payne and Nick Marshall will both need to do their best to keep the chains moving.

Last year when Auburn beat Alabama (34-28) they rushed the football for nearly 300 yards and that’s going to be next to impossible to replicate. Tre Mason had 164 of those yards and Artis-Payne isn’t on the same level as Mason was in my opinion.

The Crimson Tide are scoring 35.0 PPG (30th), but they’ve struggled to put up points against a few of their SEC opponents. Bama is averaging 279.9 PYPG (25th) and 204.9 RYPG (34th) on offense and the balance has kept opposing defenses guessing a lot of times.

Auburn had a bad stretch this month with bad losses to Texas A&M (41-38) and Georgia (34-7), but prior to that the defense had been playing much better. On the season Auburn is allowing 23.5 PPG (40th), 142.5 RYPG (38th) and 232.5 PYPG (74th).

Blake Sims has struggled with his accuracy at times this season, but he usually steps it up when he has at the end. Auburn has a bad pass defense and Sims will need to be willing to sit in the pocket and find his open receivers rather than try to take off running.

AUB vs. ALA Breakout Players

Amari Cooper ranks 3rd in the nation with 1349 receiving yards. He has 90 receptions and 11 of those have been for a TD. Cooper has had some questionable games as of late, but he’ll have a chance for a monster game against a questionable Auburn secondary.

Auburn isn’t a team that’s going to pass it a lot, but they’ll need some production through the air. Sammie Coates had a TD last year against Bama and he’s the player to watch in the Tigers pass game. Someone in the Auburn WR unit has to step up in this match-up.

Auburn Tigers vs. Alabama Crimson Tide Picks

The Tigers have fared well in recent H2H meetings and they always get up for their match-up against the Crimson Tide. This is going to be a huge game and Bama will win at home, but Auburn will be right in the game until the end and I expect them to cover.

Auburn will be treating this as their championship game and they’d love nothing more than to hand Bama another loss to muddy up the playoff picture. This will be the game of the week, so tune in on Saturday night on your long weekend and enjoy the action.
