Royal Challengers Bangalore vs. Rajasthan Royals – IPL 6 Match #27

When: 8:00pm IST (2:30pm GMT). Saturday, April 20th 2013
Venue: M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, Karnataka

We’re roughly 1/3rd of the way through the IPL 6 season and we have a marquee match-up this Saturday. The Rajasthan Royals (4-1) who are in 1st place have been the biggest surprise this year and it’ll be interesting to see if they can remain consistent.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (4-2) are tied for 2nd on the table with Sunrisers Hyderabad. Bangalore was expected to be one of the top teams in IPL 6 and they come into this match as a favourite against the hottest team in the tournament.

Rajasthan vs. Bangalore Betting Preview

This should be an interesting match, as it pits one of the top batting teams against one of the top bowling teams. Bangalore has the most power in the tournament. Chris Gayle (16) and Virat Kohli (11) lead the tournament in sixes up to this point.

Kohli (93 Runs) and Gayle (92 Runs) are also top two in the highest individual score category, but their strike rates haven’t been as impressive. Vinay Kumar leads Bangalore with a strike rate (SR) of 160.00, which is good for sixth in the tournament.

Three other players on Bangalore are in the T20 in the tournament for batting strike rate. Gayle is 2nd on the team with a SR of 144.44 (11th Overall), Kohli is 3rd with a SR rate of 140.17 (16th Overall) and AB de Villiers is 4th with a SR of 138.61 (18th Overall).

Bangalore leads the tournament with a run rate (RR) of 8.02 while Rajasthan has a RR of 7.65 (3rd). When it comes to bowling the edge goes to Rajasthan with the way their bowlers have performed after their first five matches in the tournament.

Rajasthan has held opponents to a RR of 6.60, which is the best in the IPL this year. Bangalore has allowed opponents to bat for a RR of 7.67 after their first six matches in IPL 6. The big battle in this match will be the Rajasthan bowlers vs. Bangalore batters.

While Bangalore excels at batting, Rajasthan is near the top in most bowling stats. Rajasthan has three of the T20 wicket leaders, as Kevon Cooper has 9 wickets (2nd), James Faulkner has 7 wickets (8th) and Siddharth Trivedi has 6 wickets (17th).

Five bowlers on Rajasthan rank in the T20 in bowling averages and four bowlers rank in the T15 in economy rate. Ajit Chandila is ranked #2 in bowling average (10.00) and economy rate (4.00) in 5 overs, but I’ve been most impressed by Trivedi and Cooper.

Key Performers on Bangalore & Rajasthan

These two batsmen have accounted for over 70% of the runs scored for Bangalore in IPL 6 thus far. Virat Kohil has hit 3 50’s in his six matches already. Kohil leads Bangalore with 321 runs and 33 4’s. He also has 11 6’s, which is only trailing his team mate Gayle.

Gayle hasn’t been as consistent as Kohil early on, but he has 208 runs, 18 4’s and 16 6’s in six matches. These two batsmen need to score a lot of runs on Saturday to compete with Rajasthan. If either batsman is out early it will hinder their chances to win.

The Rajasthan batsmen have been getting it done, but the bowlers have outshined them. Brad Hodge, Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane have all scored 115+ runs. Rajasthan doesn’t have much power, but Dravid (18 4’s) and Rahane (20 4’s) are very accurate.

The batsmen need to get the job done, but the biggest match-up will be the bowlers against Kohil and Gayle. Trivedi and Cooper have been the two best bowlers on Rajasthan so far and have combined for 15 wickets and an economy rate of 6.76 in 38 overs.

Royal Challengers vs. Royals Predictions

There is a long time left in IPL 6 and Rajasthan needs to take each match one at a time. They just had a huge confidence builder against the Mumbai Indians. The Royals won by 87 runs, which is the worse IPL loss that Mumbai has ever suffered.

Bangalore doesn’t have much depth at batting after Kohil and Gayle. If Rajasthan manages those two well they’ll move to 5-1 on the table and still have a game in hand on most of the top teams. Expect a close match regardless of the outcome though.
