Arkansas Razorbacks Betting Lines

What: Louisiana Monroe vs. #8 Arkansas Razorbacks NCAA Football
When: 7:00 pm EST. Saturday. September 8, 2012
Where: War Memorial Stadium Little Rock, AK

Will the #8 Arkansas Razorbacks (1-0, 0-1 ATS) be looking past the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks (0-0, 0-0 ATS) this weekend? With a huge matchup against #1 Alabama coming up next week, this is a game that might not be completely occupying their attention. From a handicappers standpoint this game isn’t real exciting, but it’s worth paying attention to Arkansas to help us next week.

ULM caught a week one bye and will come into this game feeling fresh. No doubt they we’re watching Arkansas’ 49-24 win over the Jacksonville State Gamecocks closely on their day off. Check out our free picks at the end of this article to see how we’ve broken this game down.

Louisiana Monroe is a favorite non-conference opponent for big name football schools like Arkansas, but they tend to give a little game early in the season. The ULM vs. Arkansas point spread opened at 28 and has climbed to 30.5 in recent days.

Arkansas Razorbacks Football

There’s no question that the SEC is currently the top conference in college football. In a different league, the Arkansas Razorbacks would likely be a dominating force similar to Oklahoma or Texas, but they’re stuck as a good team in a great conference.

Still, they’ve got some great weapons in QB Tyler Wilson (277-438, 3638 yds, 24 TDs, 6 INT in 2011), WR Cobi Hamilton (34 carries, 542 yards, 4 TDs in 2011) and RB Dennis Johnson (106 carries, 670 yds, 3 TDs, plus 24 catches for 255 yds and 2 TDs). These guys are going to give Louisiana Monroe all they can handle.

The Razorbacks thrilled fans but disappointed bettors in their season opener with a 49-24 win over Jacksonville State. We don’t put too much stock in -40 week one lines and think the Razorbacks played just fine. They’ve got a new coach and a slow start is to be expected. This week’s line is still pretty high, but a bit more manageable.

ULM: Louisiana Monroe Football

ULM is not one of those teams that can upset a ranked team on the road, but they’ve gone 3-3 ATS since 2009 against ranked opponents. They come into 2012 with 13 returning starters and should compete well in the Sun Belt.

Warhawks junior QB Kolton Browning (244-419, 2483 yds, 13 TDs, 8 INT) is a good Sun Belt player, but might be overwhelmed by an SEC-grade defense. Opening their season on the road in a very unfriendly environment doesn’t bode well for their chances this weekend. (There’s also the question of how much last week’s hurricane disrupted their preparations.)

We like Louisiana Monroe’s chances of putting up a touchdown or two in this game, but that might not be enough to stay ahead of a -30.5 point spread. Watch for these guys to improve over the season, but Little Rock won’t be the place where it all starts.

Arkansas Point Spread Bets

We always cast a weary eye on lines this high, but there’s some real potential in this one. Arkansas should gel as a team this game and won’t have a first half scare like they did last week. Take the Razorbacks -30.5 (-110) at BetOnline, but steer clear of the point spread if it goes much higher.

The Arkansas point spread will be updated right here every week during the 2012-13 NCAA football season.

Arkansas Money Line Bets

The Arkansas Razorbacks are 9-0 in this series and the Warhawks have dropped their last 18 road openers. If you’re a money line bettor, ULM vs Arkansas would be a good play for a parlay, but none of the top books are offering money lines on this game yet.

Arkansas Over/Under Bets

People looking to bet on this weeks Arkansas over/under should feel pretty comfortable playing over 61 points. We’re expecting Wilson to have another stellar day and put on a great show for the home crowd.
