2017 NBA Championship Odds and Futures Predictions

2017 NBA Futures PicksThe 2016-17 NBA regular season starts tomorrow (Tuesday, October 25th 2016), but you can bet on these NBA futures for most of the season. However, the odds will change as the season progresses.

While the NBA futures markets may remain open all season, finding value may prove tough, as no one is expecting anyone to provide the Golden State Warriors or Cleveland Cavaliers much competition.

The odds throughout the rest of this article are from the Bovada Sportsbook. They offer the best NBA odds. Sign-up today to get a 50% bonus for up to $250 cash, which can be used to wager on the NBA.

Odds to win the NBA Championship 2017

The Golden State Warriors (-125) are odds-on favorites to win the NBA Championship. Alternatively, you can bet on Cleveland Cavaliers (+300) to win back-to-back titles at a much better price.

Cleveland remain relatively unchanged from last season, but the Warriors made the biggest splash this off-season, as they signed free agent Kevin Durant to a two-year deal worth $54.3 million.

The Warriors starting line-up now features Stephen Curry (PG), Klay Thompson (SG), Kevin Durant (SF), Draymond Green (PF) and Zaza Pachulia (C). Injuries could derail the season, but fatigue shouldn’t, as the Warriors still have quite a few depth pieces, including Shaun Livingston and Andre Iguodala.

Here are the odds for every team to win the NBA Championship this season.

If you’re willing to be contrarian, there’s plenty of value out there.

What about the San Antonio Spurs (+900)? Sure, the Spurs lost Tim Duncan, but they replaced him with Pau Gasol who still appears ready to contribute at an elite level. If Jonathon Simmons and Kyle Anderson can both take a step forward and produce off the bench, the Spurs could contend.

The LA Clippers (+2500) are interesting, but they’re very weak at small forward and we all know this team has been unable to stay healthy. Can Chris Paul and Blake Griffin play the entire season healthy?

In the East, I expect the Toronto Raptors (+5000) to compete with the Cavaliers. While it’s tough to see the Raptors winning the NBA Championship, it could happen. Jared Sullinger could surprise and produce or the Raptors could pick up a star power forward via trade, which would turn them into top contenders.

2017 NBA division winner best bets

Hunting a bit deeper, there’s some value in the division winner markets at the Bovada Sportsbook.

Toronto signed DeMar DeRozan to a five-year deal worth $139 million. Kyle Lowry and Patrick Patterson are both playing in a contract season and want to be paid. Norman Powell should be ready to play more minutes and Jonas Valanciunas still has room to grow on defense.

The Raptors are going to be good, but they’re not getting much respect. Toronto have won the Atlantic three consecutive seasons. The biggest competition will come from the Boston Celtics (-105) who are actually favored to win the division. Will the Celtics live up to hype? My money is on no.

Boston added Al Horford during the off-season and they already have a ton of young players, but will they be able to all produce right away? Jaylen Brown will need time and the front court is a little weak outside of Horford. If the division race is close, the Raptors have the H2H edge (8-4 last three seasons).

The Northwest divison race is expected to be close. Oklahoma City Thunder (+250) are favored to win, but Portland, Utah Jazz (+260) and Minnesota Timberwolves (+333) are expected to contend.

Russell Westbrook may be in the MVP race at season’s end, but the Thunder will be lucky to sneak into the NBA playoffs. Losing Durant will be too much for this team to overcome so quickly. Westbrook and Victor Oladipo will be an exciting back court to watch, but they won’t win the division.

It seems the Jazz and Timberwolves are being over-hyped by sports media. They both have young players and may contend for the division in a season or two, but they’re both inexperienced teams.

My pick is Portland. Damian Lillard has said he wants to win the MVP this season and we all know what he can do. C.J. McCollum has turned into one of the NBA’s best SGs already. The front-court lacks big names, but there’s plenty of depth and experience at SF, PF and C.
