2014 NFL Regular Season Win Total Betting Lines

Other than Super Bowl futures, the regular season win total market is next in popularity. In recent years sportsbooks have seen the turnover in this market increase by a large amount. Now many casual fans use a portion of their bankroll on this futures bet.

I’ve posted the over/under win total odds for each NFL team at the bottom of this article. Right now I want to share my picks in this market. This season I’ve placed bets on four teams. Two teams I expect to overachieve and two teams I expect to underachieve.

The Saints (11-5) finished 2nd in the NFC South and made it to the playoffs as a wild card last season. Drew Brees led the Saints to the 2nd ranked passing offense (307.4 PYPG). That passing attack will be even better after drafting Brandin Cooks in the first round.

Darren Sproles and Lance Moore are gone, but this offense is stronger if Jimmy Graham and Marques Colston stay healthy. The team also lost some players on defense (Will Smith, Jabari Greer and Roman Harper), but they signed Jairus Byrd and Champ Bailey.

Rob Ryan made this defense a force to be reckoned with last season and that unit will be even better with experience. Brees will put up over 5000+ passing yards and the Saints will win the NFC South. The schedule for the most part is very manageable.

Philadelphia (10-6) won the NFC East last season while the Cowboys finished behind them. The Cowboys will be worse this season, so the Eagles have no reason not to win the division. As long as Nick Foles doesn’t regress I like the Eagles a lot.

We know LeSean McCoy will be his usual self again, but the question is can Foles repeat his 2013 numbers without his #1 WR from last season in DeSean Jackson. Philly drafted Jordan Matthews and Josh Huff to help Foles out in the pass game.

Chip Kelly will have the Eagles offense rolling on all cylinders again. The defense is still a work in progress. They went and signed a number of players to add depth to the unit and I expect the defense to play better although the ILB’s are still a liability.

Miami Dolphins always has a lot of hype, but they rarely live up to it. Last season the Dolphins (8-8) lost their last two regular season games and missed out on a wild card. Miami’s schedule is tough and includes out of division teams like GB, CHI, DEN and BAL.

Mike Wallace has been disappointing in Miami and the Dolphins o-line is terrible. They improved the o-line, but they still lack a piece or two upfront. Protection for Ryan Tannehill will be a problem again. Last season Tannehill was sacked 58 times.

The defense has a few strong players including Cameron Wake and Brent Grimes, but the Dolphins also have question marks at each level of the defensive unit. I expect Miami to regress rather than improve this season and I’m betting the U7.5 wins.

I’ll admit the fact that the Houston Texans (2-14) was the worst team in the NFL last season was surprising. Matt Schaub was terrible and this year Ryan Fitzpatrick is the starter. In my opinion that isn’t an improvement and he’ll struggle until he’s yanked.

Arian Foster is injury prone and the Texans no longer have Ben Tate backing him up. Andre Johnson isn’t happy and Owen Daniels is gone, so the WR unit has questions as well. The only bright spot on the Texans offense is the o-line, which should be strong again.

Houston should have a deadly pass rush with J.J. Watt and rookie Jadeveon Clowney. The secondary will be relatively strong, but the LB position is weak. The schedule has many winnable games, but I don’t expect Houston to bounce back to .500 football yet.
