2012 Deutsche Bank Championship Odds

The 2012 Deutsche Bank Championship starts this Friday (August 31st 2012) and will run through Labor Day weekend. The top 100 point leaders for the FedEx Cup qualify for this event and everyone will be playing this year except Garcia and Toms.

Only the top 70 golfers in the FedEx Cup playoff standings will qualify for the 2012 BMW Championship next week. Nick Watney is currently the leader in points (3226) after winning The Barclays last week and he’ll now have a chance to win the FedEx Cup.

As always, the Deutsche Bank Championship will be hosted at the Tournament Players Club of Boston (TPC). TPC is regarded as the easiest course on the PGA Tour. You want to bet on golfers with a long drive and above average putting at TPC Boston.

This tournament has only been running since 2003 and Vijay Singh is the only 2-time winner (2004 & 2008). The lowest score to win on the course was -14 (2005), so you can expect the winner to shoot over -10 this weekend.

Last year’s winner in the Deutsche Bank Championship was Webb Simpson (-15) and in 2010 Charley Hoffman won (-22). Neither golfer was expected to win, so we could see another big longshot come through at the betting window.

Rory McIlroy Co-Favourite to Win at TPC Boston

The course at TPC Boston is a par 71 and 7214 yards, which includes three par 5’s and several long par 4’s. Some of the greens on the course have been made smaller and there have also been more bunkers implemented, so accuracy will be important as well.

Tiger Woods is currently ranked 5th in total driving (38th Distance & 41st Accuracy). Woods hits 66.77% of greens in regulation (GIR) and he converts his birdie attempts at a 29.80% clip, which should mean he’ll be in contention after a poor finish last week (T38).

Rory McIlroy ranks T48 in total driving, but the fact he ranks #6 in driving distance will help him at TPC Boston. McIlroy struggles with driving accuracy, but he hits 66.01% of GIR and also converts 33% of his birdie opportunities.

Both of the co-favourites should be near the top of the leaderboard this weekend at TPC Boston. McIlroy is my pick out of the two favourites this weekend in the 2012 Deutsche Bank Championship, but I also have a couple more tips.

Bubba Watson is worth a strong look this weekend. Watson ranks #1 in driving distance and #1 in GIR (70.54%). He’ll have ample opportunities to drain birdies/eagles, so if his putting is on this weekend I think he can win the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Another golfer I like is Dustin Johnson this week. Johnson is 7th in driving distance, but like McIlroy his accuracy isn’t good. Due to the course I think he’ll be more accurate and his 64.34% of GIR should improve. He finished T3 last week as well.

Betting on the outright markets this weekend is great, but don’t forget that most of the value is found in the in-play golf markets. You can bet on the winner market right up until the start of the final round using a live betting platform.

We advise using BetOnline Live or Bet365  for betting on golf markets in-play, as they’re the most advanced.

Will Tiger Woods be the Top American Golfer?

Tiger Woods is the favourite to be the top American this weekend at 6.50 odds. Woods should do well, but his form last week was poor and I think there is some value betting on Dustin Johnson (12.00) or Bubba Watson (15.00) to be the top American.

2012 Deutsche Bank Championship Predictions

• Rory McIlroy to win 11.00

• Bubba Watson E/W 23.00

• Dustin Johnson E/W 19.00
